Grotto Scalinata

Since way back in 1922 the Balemi family has run this typical Ticino grotto with love and passion, since the last few years it is Sanita Riekstina who runs it and respectfully carries on this historic activity. The grotto is located in Tenero, just a few minutes from Ascona and Locarno.

Although the restaurant has been renovated several times, it has retained all the charm of a traditional grotto. The grotto has two rooms, one modern and one old, where all the specialities on the menu are cooked by the fireplace; the large terrace is beautiful and welcoming, shaded by a large vine pergola, perfect for the hottest time of the year. The wine and grappa are home-made. The grotto steps are equipped with a ramp for the disabled.

In addition to local cold cuts and alpine cheeses from our valleys, Grotto Scalinata offers simple, home-style cooking every day, ready to satisfy even the most spoilt gourmets with typical regional specialities such as polenta cooked in the wood-burning fireplace, saffron risotto, roast kid, stewed goat, roast rabbit and braised meat. These are just a sample of the tasty and rich cuisine that you can enjoy in a rustic, comfortable and cosy atmosphere.
