Discover Ticino. One territory, a thousand facets.

Ticino is a Swiss canton with a unique personality. In fact, it is the only canton to be located entirely south of the Alps and to have Italian as its only official language. The variety and quality of the accommodation on offer, the range of products and the quality of services make it a first-class tourist region. A land of extraordinary and fascinating natural contrasts, in Ticino, along the 100 km that separate the St Gotthard from the Mendrisiotto, it is possible to admire the entire palette of European landscapes, letting oneself be enchanted by the glittering glaciers, the wild Alpine valleys, the green hills where olive trees and vines grow and the rich subtropical vegetation of the botanical parks.

Ticino's history, culture, language and dialects are intertwined with those of the neighbouring Italian border regions. The climate is particularly mild, the pre-Alpine and lake landscapes are characterised by a lively variety of colours and the vegetation, especially in the Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano regions, is typically Mediterranean. The lake regions, the hills that frame them and the villages that overlook them are characterised by numerous Baroque and Neoclassical mansions and primitive nuclei that are typically Lombard.

Ticino's gastronomy has been able to draw on the cuisines of Lombardy and Piedmont, while retaining a personality all its own. The authenticity of the local cuisine is still present in the grotti, small trattorias and typical popular haunts that derive from the winter storerooms of wine and cold cuts.

Art and architecture are also at home in Ticino, a cultural tradition that is still very much alive today, with many world-famous artists and architects such as Mario Botta, Aurelio Galfetti, Luigi Snozzi, Livio Vacchini, Ivano Gianola and others. The art collections in the museums, private collections, major art exhibitions, and musical and film events attest to a cultural liveliness that has its roots in the history of Ticino.
